UK Fiancé Visa

Overview

UK Fiancé Visa route allows the non-UK partner of a British citizen or a person with settled status in the UK to come to the UK to get married. Below is the latest information on the process as of 2024:

Eligibility Requirements

Relationship Requirements:

  • You must be engaged to a British citizen or someone with settled status in the UK.
  • You must have met in person.
  • You must intend to marry within six months of arriving in the UK.

Financial Requirements:

  • Your partner must meet the financial requirement of earning at least £29,000 per year or have sufficient savings.
  • Additional income requirements apply if there are dependent children.

Accommodation:

  • You must have adequate accommodation arranged where you and your partner can live.

English Language:

You must demonstrate your knowledge of the English language by passing an approved English language test at CEFR level A1 or higher, unless exempt.

Application Process

After Applying

Online Application:

  • Complete the online application form on the UK government website.

Supporting Documents:

  • Passport and travel documents.
  • Proof of your relationship (photos, communication records, etc.).
  • Financial documents proving your partner meets the financial requirement.
  • Accommodation details.
  • English language test results.
  • TB test results (if applicable from your country).

Biometric Information:

  • Provide your biometric information (fingerprints and photograph) at a visa application Centre.

Application Fee:

  • Pay the application fee and the healthcare surcharge (which allows you access to the NHS).
  • Processing Time: It usually takes up to 12 weeks (about 2.5 months) to get a decision on your fiancé(e) visa application.
  • Validity: The fiancé(e) visa is valid for 6 months, during which you must get married.
  • Post-Marriage: After marriage, you can apply for a spouse visa to remain in the UK.

Post-Fiancé(e) Visa

Spouse Visa:

  • Apply for a spouse visa after getting married in the UK. This visa is initially granted for 2.5 years and can be extended.
  • You need to meet similar requirements as the fiancé(e) visa, including financial and accommodation requirements, and English language proficiency.

Settlement (Indefinite Leave to Remain):

  • After 5 years of residency on a spouse visa, you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), provided you meet all the necessary requirements.

Citizenship:

After obtaining ILR and meeting residency requirements, you can apply for British citizenship.
